Abstract
The design of commercial supersonic aircraft is challenged by the trade-off between keeping drag as low as possible during supersonic cruise flight while reducing noise levels in areas close to the airport. In this study, four different supersonic aircraft platforms - two business jets with Ma=1.4 and Ma=1.6 and two airliners with Ma=1.8 and Ma=2.2 - are used to investigate advanced take-off procedures to meet the required noise levels. In addition, the impact of different engine technologies, such as variable area nozzles and two-stage fans, on certification levels is examined.
